Welcome to Suffolk Academy
The Suffolk Academy (formerly the Academy Health and Fitness Centre) sits in 10 acres of sports field on the outskirts of the village of Barrow, just 8 miles from Bury St Edmunds and within easy driving distance of Cambridge, Newmarket and Ipswich. Since 2008, The Suffolk Academy has been serving the community of Barrow, and beyond.
The Story of
Our Story
Begining as a way to train elite athletes from the England Karate squad. Over many years the site has constantly grown and developed to meet the community’s needs. In addition to Karate, we have grown substantially, we now host a recently expanded and renovated Life Fitness gym (open 5am to 11pm 365 days a year), archery range, camping pitches and festivals, Pirates Cove Mini Golf, Escape rooms and more!

Many of our events bring people from all around the world to Barrow, such as the Homegrown Music Festival which brings thousands of music loving fans to the grounds every summer for a super weekend of live music and partying that supports East Anglian musicians, artists, and vendors. The Great Barrow Challenge sees even more people travelling here from all over the world to participate in our elite marathon and ultra marathon events through the year.

Multiple spaces for hire across Suffolk Academy including private rooms, function room that can cater up to 200, outdoor spaces with room for a marquee and a full fitness studio available for private hire.

We are fully licensed across our whole site. Our bar is attached to our studio which can also be used for functions.

Outdoor Space
predominently a campsite but with enough space to erect a marquee on our field we are suitable for a relaxed wedding or function. Our outside bar can be used on it's own or as part of a larger function.

All functions are suitable at Suffolk Academy, based in the heart of Suffolk, we cater for functions including Weddings, wakes and birthdays.
Campsite Hire
whole site hire is available for groups. With toilets, showers, campfire, games area, basic kitchen facilities we have everything to make for a fun stay.

Marathons, Ultras and now Half Marathons! 10 in 10
2022 will see our 8th 10 marathons in 10 days One of the original UK events of this type, we started life as The Great Barrow Challenge and retain this name for our 10 day summer event. We are located in Barrow, Suffolk and this is most definitely a challenge! We use a variety of routes throughout the event. Some single loops others are multi lap. All start and finish in the same place and take you through the lovely Suffolk countryside.
